How to
Marinate Chicken Wings for BBQ

So here are
5 super easy ways to marinate chicken wings to have an awesome BBQ.
1. Singaporean-Style
It’s a combination
of different sorts of flavours that you might have never thought might actually ‘get along’, but the taste
is simply amazing.
Serving Amount:
Approximately 24 chicken wings
Things You’ll
Need:
i. 3 cloves of minced garlic
ii. 1-inch cube of minced ginger
iii. 1 cup of tomato paste
iv. ½ cup of Hoison sauce
v. ½ cup of soy sauce
vi. ½ cup of ketchup
vii. 2 tbsp of chilli paste
viii. 1 cup of dark brown sugar
How To Do
It:
i. Mix up the minced garlic & ginger with all of the
liquids
ii. Pour in dark brown sugar
iii. Place the chicken in to marinate for at least 4
hours
The awesome thing
about this recipe is that it works really well with other chicken parts like thighs & breasts
too!
2. Teriyaki-fied

This is probably the
classic of marinating sauces and rightfully so! Almost everyone loves this unique flavour; so if you’re
expecting guests from all walks of life- we’d say this is a pretty safe choice.
Serving Amount:
Approximately 680g of chicken wings (discard tips)
Things You’ll
Need:
i. 120ml of teriyaki sauce
ii. 65g of oyster sauce
iii. 60ml of soy sauce
iv. 60ml of ketchup
v. 15g of garlic powder
vi. 60ml of gin (yes, gin- just a little)
vii. 2 dashes of liquid smoke flavouring
viii. 100g of white sugar
ix. 60ml honey
How To Do
It:
i. Mix the teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic
powder, gin, liquid smoke & sugar in a large bowl
ii. Place the chicken into the bowl, cover it up and leave it to
marinate in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours
3. Soy Honey-Sweet
Something a little
sweet & a little salty, perhaps? Many don’t dare to venture too far beyond the usual honey-marinated chicken.
But this one is a must-try.

Serving Amount:
Approximately 2kg of chicken wings
Things You’ll
Need:
i. ½ cup of soy sauce
ii. ½ cup of honey
iii. ½ cup of white wine
iv. 3 cloves of minced garlic
v. 1 tbsp of ginger
How To Do
It:
i. Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl
ii. Place in chicken for at least 2 hours
4. Sweet & Spicy

The secret to this
scrumptious treat is all in the chilli sauce. So much must go into it!
Serving Amount:
Approximately 1.4kg of chicken
What You’ll
Need:
i. 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
ii. ¼ cup of water
iii. ½ cup of sugar
iv. 2 fresh & minced hot peppers
v. 2 cloves of minced garlic
vi. ¼ tsp of salt
vii. 1 tsp of cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tsp of
water
How To Do
It:
i. Put the water, vinegar & sugar together in a saucepan, and
mix till well-blended
ii. Bring to a boil until the sugar has dissolved
iii. Add the minced hot peppers, garlic and salt
iv. Boil for 1 minute
v. Add the cornstarch and boil till everything is blended
together
vi. Let it cool before using it to marinate
vii. Place chicken into the sauce and let it refrigerate for at least
4 hours
5. Soy & Hoisin
Hoisin has long been
a favourite of Singaporeans. So get ready for some local goodness that will blow your mind.
Serving Amount:
Approximately 1.5kg of chicken wings
Things You’ll
Need:
i. 6 cloves of minced garlic
ii. 9 tbsp of grated fresh ginger
iii. 3 tbsp of soy sauce
iv. 3 tbsp of dark brown sugar(or honey)
v. 12 tbsp of Hoisin sauce
vi. 7 chopped spring onions
How To Do
It:
i. Mix all ingredients into a bowl
ii. Leave the chicken in to marinate for at least 4
hours
Extra Tips for
BBQ Chicken Wings:

a. If possible, leave the meat to marinate overnight! It’ll
really let the flavour sink in and the food will be so much more enjoyable
b. Prepare your grill by making sure that it is very hot first
before putting marinated meat to cook
c. Continue to spread some more marinate sauce onto the meat while
cooking for that extra oomph
